Macnas are a world renowned street theatre group based in Galway. You’ve probably seen footage of the big heads of Bono and the rest of U2 from the ZooTV tour-that was their commercial arm. For many years they’ve been part of the Galway Arts Festival (now the Galway International Arts Festival), but that’s changed recently. These photos are from the 2nd last Macnas Parade ‘This Fierce Beauty” that took place on the Sunday in the middle of the festival. I’ve shot the parade for many years, but each year I’d wanted more character portraits. So I hauled lighting equipment down to the Fisheries Field to shoot as people prepared. As luck would have it, this was the first time that everyone had individual costumes. Here’s my results: Please use the Scrollbar to see all the photos.
